The Elephant Day

Today was the day Maria and Teresa were finally waiting for... in fact, we hyped it up so much that last night when asked what tomorrow brought Teresa actually thought it was Christmas. Nope, it was the elephant day.

We woke up early and had a car and driver take us to the Maesa Elephant Camp outside of Chiang Mai. Once there, we were able to buy some bananas and sugar cane and feed the elephants. Both kids were excited to see so many elephants there. Maria can usually spend her whole visit to the Denver Zoo watching the two elephants there. This was unreal! Teresa wasn't keen on feeding the elephants or getting too close but she definitely enjoyed watching them from a safe distance.

We then got to watch the Mahmots give them a bath in the river before the elephants heading up to the elephant show. In all honesty, the show was kind of slow and often just silly. The elephants did a few tricks and then played a short soccer game. They also painted. I was amazed at their eye hand coordination- better than two kiddos I know.

The hightlight though was taking a half hour elephant ride. Both girls loved it. At one point I was worried about falling off the dumb seat while trying to keep Teresa from falling out. But, we made it through unscathed and the girls loved it!
